4th Grade News

Hello!

It has been a great start to the New Year!

Here is what is going on in 4th grade!

What we are learning!

We are going to be learning about folktales and theme, narrative nonfiction with main idea and details in reading.

In math we have been learning and will continue to do long division! When your students are doing their homework with long division and are having trouble, ask them if they have their burger. We made step by step instruction manual for long division that they can use on their homework.

Fastbridge Testing

This week we took our Fastbridge screener tests. We take these 3 times a year (Fall, Winter, and Spring) These just help us in determining who needs extra help and in specifically what areas.

Mass with the Bishop

February 2, we will be joining St. X in a special mass with the Bishop. If you would like to drive, please let me know as well as how many students you can take. Remember, there are new guide lines to drive and the paperwork can take several days to complete as well as conducting a background check which can take more than a week. So please keep that in mind if you would like to drive but haven't done all the paperwork yet. I will send home a packet upon request.

Homework

Please remember, don't spend more than about 30 minutes on homework, especially if it is tough. I do want kids to struggle some, but struggling to frustration and tears is not helpful for anyone. If your child is struggling and has worked on it for about 30 minutes, please just send me a note in the planner and we will go over it the next day.

Tonight's homework may be especially tough. It is not an easy concept to master. They should only be doing 2 problems; #1 and another one of their choosing.
