Battle of the Books: Wednesday, September 14th

Hello parents!

I just wanted to reach out and give you a little information about Battle of the Books (BOB).

We LOVE to read! Our mission is to encourage children to read, listen, and work as a team. Students read books and come together to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge of the books they have read. Mrs. Woods and Mrs. Klosterman are helping sponsor again this year, along with myself. We greatly appreciate the support from Mrs. Whitehair and the Home and School organization.

This year we are meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.

Our first meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 14. Any 3rd, 4th, 5th (and even 6th grader) may participate!

We are aware that the middle school students may have conflicts, as well as our own students because of the sports academy. We also realize choir practices on Wednesdays until 3:15. The students may join us at this time if they are involved in choir.

IF YOUR CHILD IS INTERESTED IN BOB, please send me an email swilson@sasabilene.com, or have them come talk to me. We will work with them around other commitments. They can always start reading the books from our book list and join us as often as possible. It's really important that they attend the meetings starting in January because that's when we form groups and start practicing the questions and really preparing for the battle. We will have a school battle here at St. Andrew’s. We will also have the top teams battle against St. Mary’s in Salina. Both of these battles will be in late spring: April or May.

If your child is at all interested or just wants some more info, please encourage them to attend our first meeting on Sept. 14; or come visit with me. We have had many great battles in the past and are looking forward to another one this spring.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mrs. Wilson
