Teachers Notes:
During this short week we will have a lot going on so please make sure your students is getting plenty of rest! We will be having our spelling test on Thursday! We will also have the IKE visitors on Thursday! I have our epics account set up for any parent that would like to use this I will be listing the code below. EPICs is an app that you can use between the hours of 7-4 to access books that can either be read to your student or your student can read on an iPad without having to pay. This is a great way for your student to practice reading and to also find books that interest them. Please make sure to pay attention while your student is on as they do have videos and so they may be watching something instead of listening or reading a book like it is intended for. Thank you for all your help and all that you do for your student and our classroom! If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email me and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

UFLI:
In UFLI this week we will be reviewing the -ck and sh digraphs and when they are used in our reading passages on Monday and Wednesday. Here is a reminder of the rules incase your student needs some help. A Digraph is when 2 consonants come together and make only one sound. Digraph -ck can only be found at the end of a word after a short vowel sound. Digraph sh can be found at the beginning, or end of a word.
The new concepts we will be talking about this week are compound words and trigraph -tch. A trigraph is when 3 consonants come together to make 1 sound. For Compound words we remind students that syllables have only 1 vowel sound. When reading compound words that are 2 closed syllables, first we read the first word or syllable then we read the second word or syllable. We can cover up the first part of the word. This will help us read the first part. Then we cover the second part. Once we have both words we add them together to get a new word. Examples of these are hotdog, stepdad, cannot, suntan, backpack. For Trigraph -TCH, it can only come at the end of a word immediately after a short vowel sound. It makes the same sound as -CH.
Reading:
In reading this week we will be learning about the r-controlled vowels -or, -ore. We call these r-controlled because the r takes over the vowel's sound. -OR can come in the middle of a word, such as fork, and corn. -OR can also come at the beginning of a word like the word orb. -OR can come at the end of a word such as for; however when we hear the -OR sound at the end of a word it is usually spelled with an E, like in the words more and store.
We will also be working with compound words in our reading.
We have come to the end of Unit 3 and I will be sending home the unit 3 book on Thursday. This week we will be exploring folktales and persuasive writing. We will be talking about and giving our opinions on why we should or should not read folktales. We will talk about how to respectfully state our opinions and learn the difference between a fact and an opinion.
Math:
In Math this week we will continue to explore measuring things. We will start by talking about what we can use to measure and if we should be using our foot to measure with. Then we will grow to using cm cubes to measure different objects and placing them in length order.
We will also be working on a math fact packet this week to help us work on our fluency in math facts.
Religion:
In religion this week we will finish up our conversation on the 10 commandments and move on to talk about God's Chosen King. This will be when we learn about King David and where he comes from and who he comes to be. We will talk about how he put his faith in God and remembered to love God. If we have time we will also talk about when Mary said yes to being the mother of Jesus. We will talk about the importance of her saying yes and how she put her trust in God.
