Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere in 1st Grade


Teachers Notes:

Good Morning,

I hope that this newsletter finds you well and that you had a wonderful and relaxing weekend. This week we are going to be doing a pumpkin investigation to prepare for our trip to the pumpkin patch. We will also be trying some foods that have pumpkin in them. If your child is allergic to anything please email me and let me know. Thank you. If you have not confirmed plans for the pumpkin patch field trip with me please email me and let me know as soon as possible. We are in charge of this the Halloween Tiger Day so more information on help will be coming out soon. If you have not signed up for your parent teacher conference please do so as soon as you can. Reading:

In reading this week we will be focusing on the short u sound. We will also be working on procedural texts and how to write them. We will be reviewing comparing and contrasting, nouns and verbs, and long and short vowel sound review. Our high-frequency words this week are as, he, to, with, and three.

Math:

In math this week we will be continuing with our adding numbers between 1-20 and working on story problems. We will also be reviewing our numbers between 1-120. We will also be working with weight of a pumpkin, and measuring a pumpkin with different math manipulatives.

Science:

In Science this week we are going to be talking about the 5 senses and what they can tell us, the life cycle of a pumpkin plant, making predictions and observations.

Religion:

In religion this week we are going to be talking about Saint Kateri Tekakwitha. We will be talking about how our God is a loving Father and creator.
